Important 17th century New England land conveyance. 1686. Local to the early settlement of Newton in Middlesex County, Massachusetts. Newton, Mass first settlers were in 1639. Newton was New Cambridge at that time. Some of the signers and notable figures from that area mentioned in the deed are John Woodward (born in Watertown, Mass, circa 1648). Ebenezer Stone. Joseph Dudley (born 1647 in Roxbury, A governor of Massachusetts). Thomas Greenwood. Humphrey Goslin. The streets of Newton are named after these figures. Framed under glass with double sided exposure of the document. Folding creases and some small loss to paper. Foxing. Red wax seals lower right. Not examined out of the frame. Document size with folded over back- 7-¾” x 12-⅛”. Histories of signers also available. See photos.
