19th century Chinese export school large Imperial court scene depicting a seated Emperor Chia-Ching (Jiaqing), 1796-1820. Imperial attendants and guards lined up. This is a famous scene and rare image with very few examples known. Oil on canvas laid down on board. Small line repair with inpaint in roof. Area of line repairs in stone foundation of building front right with some inpaint. Craquelure. Framed. Overall: 34.5 x 48in. A similar, smaller, painting sold at Christies, lot 153 New York 6/4/1992 as well as "Chinese Export Art"; Margaret Jourdain, plate 50. This particular painting was sold at Eldred's Auction in Dennis, Massachusetts in 1971. See illustrations
