Description:

A New England Hepplewhite cherry slant lid secretary desk having blind door bookcase top, possibly Connecticut, C. 1790. Having four raised panels and cornice molded top. The lower section having slanted lid which opens to expose an 11 drawer interior with fluted carved faces, central prospector door, beneath the lid having four graduated dovetailed drawers resting upon four French flared feet. Marked on backboards in chalk: "SWAIM". Case width: 40", case depth: 18 1/2", overall depth 19 3/4", writing H: 31 1/4" . Condition: various parts of feet repaired, partially replaced, right hand side with patch, chips and losses to feet and various moldings. Period brass oval hardware with extra holes
