David Roberts. The Holy Land. 1855-56, First Quarto Edition. The Holy Land, Syria, Idumea, Arabia, Egypt, and Nubia. After lithographs by Louis Haghe, from drawings by David Roberts, with historical descriptions by William Brockedon. Lithographed, printed, and published by Day & Son. London. 6 volumes in 3. 250 tinted lithograph plates including frontispiece portrait of Roberts, the page for which is loose but present. Three-quarter leather binding with cloth boards and gilt embossed "Deus Vult" decoration on covers. Hinges worn. Rear hinge on final volume cracked along bottom two-thirds. Edges worn and scuffed. Some spine caps and tails bumped. Light cracking to leather on spines. Some pages with scattered foxing/staining. Many plates in good, clean condition. 11.75 x 9in each volume. From the collection of Dr. Bruce L. Ralston, Tuxedo Park N.Y. Dr. Ralston assembled a large collection during the 1960s & 70s a portion of which is offered here.
