George Earl. English. Large mountainous landscape sporting scene painting with 2 hunting dogs in the foreground and hunter in the background. Oil on canvas. Unframed. From the property of William Lort Esquire. Mr. Lort was presented in 1878 a presentation silver tureen for his long filled office of judge at horse and dog shows in England. He was long admired by noblemen and gentlemen. This tureen and illuminated book presented to Mr. Lort with the address held at Yorkelton Hall - Shrewsbury. Presented for his valuable judging services and breeding services of hunting dogs. (Tremont Auctions lot 24, May 19 2019). According to the family, this painting had a plaque stating George Earl as the artist. The frame and plaque were destroyed in a flood. Scattered paint loss along lower area. Appears unsigned. 40 x 54in. 1.5in puncture lower left side.
