Description:

Rare pair of fine Chinese 18th century cloisonne heavily gilt bowls. "Running Gold" gilding with champleve archaic dragon scrolling borders with green enamel grounds. Rondels of the characters "wan, shou, wu, jiang" (ten thousand years of long life without end) on blue grounds. Turquoise ground stylized floral scrolling decoration. Fine engraved 4 character seal marks on bases "zi, sun, yong, bao" (treasured forever by sons and grandsons). 6.5in diameter. 2.875in high.

Provenance: Collected by Gwethalyn Jones (1880-1959), who was an art collector and a patron of the arts at the Chicago Art Institute; thence by descent in the family.
