Description:

Stunning 19th Century Pair of Fully Beaded Plains Indian Mens Ceremony Moccasins. These have a most impressive presence, having Blue beads on the bottom of the soles as well. Likely made in the 1880s or 1890s by the Northern Plains Nakoda Assiniboine Sioux First Nations tribe for either their Sun, Thunder, or Horse Ceremony Dance. Glass beads with sinew thread. Similar moccasins are observed in the Minneapolis Institute of Art. Condition: Leather is very dry and hard with heel fringe loss. Right moccasin has lost most of its tongue. Very minor bead loss at sole seam in several spots as observed in the photographs. They roughly measure 11" long x 4-1/2" wide.
